Yes, I agree. Kids can be taught to be respectful and kind while still having the right to decide if they want a hug or not. How about having kids greet relatives that they rarely see with a nice hello and a handshake? I have a memory of an older family member that truly scared the living crap out of me when I was small. I would have much preferred a handshake to tight hugs and wet kisses from someone I saw once a year.
